About the client.

NHS Property Services are a government owned function which exists to help The NHS get the most from its estate, and ensure that it is consistently fit for purpose so that healthcare professionals can deliver excellent patient care.

Their portfolio is one of the largest in the UK, comprising more than 3,000 properties with 7,000 tenants across England. At a total value of more than £3bn, this represents about 10% of the total NHS estate. Properties range from listed buildings through to state-of-the-art integrated health campuses.

 

The brief.

To carry out external works to the large Health Centre in Western Flavell located on a busy main road. The brief was to supply and install two DDA compliant access ramps along with a small amount of additional paving to determine a safe, clear route of access and egress for patients and visitors.

Our solution.

In order to satisfy requirements set out within the clients brief our dedicated design department undertook a detailed site survey and produced prevailing general arrangement drawings and detailed construction drawings. These were produced in line with current building regulations (with particular emphasis on Part M) and in line with the Equality’s Act 2010. The design called for a double skinned wall construction to retain the forming of the ramp in order to maintain it’s integrity. Class A solid bricks were installed in a stretcher bond in order to match the existing buildings design and aesthetics. DDA warm touch handrailing and additional lighting was assessed as to benefit this project and improve current site facilities. All works were undertaken in accordance with current Health and safety legislation with Roshal undertaking the Role of Principal Contactor and Principal Designer (CDM 2015).
