About the client.

Boots UK commissioned a comprehensive Electrical Installation Condition Report (EICR) across all logistics-operated buildings at their Beeston site. The objective was to ensure electrical safety, compliance with NICEIC standards, and to identify and rectify any underlying electrical issues without disrupting ongoing operations

The brief.

Phased Fixed Wire Testing

A structured, phased approach was adopted to systematically test all electrical installations across multiple logistics buildings.

Compliance with NICEIC Guidelines

All testing procedures adhered strictly to NICEIC standards, ensuring full regulatory compliance and best practices in electrical safety.

Identification of Unknown Circuits

A significant challenge was the presence of undocumented circuits. These were carefully traced, identified, and recorded to improve the site’s electrical documentation and future maintenance efficiency.

Minimising Operational Disruption

Testing was strategically planned, with a substantial portion carried out during out-of-hours periods. This approach ensured that logistics operations and factory production remained unaffected.

Remedial Works

Faults and non-compliances discovered during testing were addressed promptly. On-site remedial works were carried out to bring all systems up to standard, reducing the need for follow-up visits.

Collaborative On-Site Coordination

The team worked closely with Boots staff to ensure safety, clear communication, and minimal disruption. Flexibility and professionalism were key to navigating the complexities of a live operational environment.

Challenges & Solutions

Challenge Numerous unidentified circuits posed a risk to safety and system understanding.

Solution Detailed circuit tracing and labelling were conducted, significantly improving the site’s electrical clarity.

Challenge Avoiding disruption to a 24/7 logistics operation.

Solution Testing was scheduled during evenings and weekends, with careful coordination to avoid interfering with critical operations.

Outcome

The project was completed successfully, with all logistics buildings tested and certified in line with NICEIC standards. The identification of unknown circuits and immediate remedial actions enhanced the site’s electrical safety and operational resilience.

Client Feedback.

“We’re very pleased with the professionalism and efficiency of the team. They were able to work independently and safely, which gave us confidence to let them get on with the job without constant supervision.” Steve Gibson
