About the client
Caterpillar is dedicated to the assembly of small construction machines, typically used on construction sites all over the world.
They principally operate through three primary segments – Construction Industries, Resource Industries and Energy & Transportation.
Roshal and Caterpillar have been working together since 2019 on a variety of different projects, and we are excited to continue to develop our working relationship for future projects.
The brief
Roshal were asked to construct a hot test booth for a new product introduction programme. A hot booth is an area where brand new machinery is taken to be filled with hydraulic engine liquid. It is classified as ‘hot’ due to the engines of the machinery being ran.
The ‘Trident’ product is assembled on individual product movers that traverse sideways along a single chain driven towline. The new booth needed to be constructed as a through booth with fast acting doors and capacity to safely accommodate four products. The construction needed be sound proofed and incorporate all required infrastructure to enable the successful fluid filling and functional testing of the product.
Specialist powered access equipment was used to be able to be able to gain access to the ceiling.
Our solution
As part of the internal build of the test booth Roshal constructed a reinforced Mezzanine floor and walls on the west side with access stairs and handrail for fluid dispense equipment. This mezzanine needed to be positioned at 3.5m height above ground floor level to sit above the machinery being tested and 3.5mm wide to accommodate the fluid tanks. The fluid tanks were then placed on the mezz along with associated drip trays to catch any spillages.
The booth needed a fast-acting door at either end with automatic control functionality, along with personnel doors with card door access.
The walls were constructed floor to ceiling with sound proofing materials to be able to achieve 80dBA, with no roof construction but to reach a whopping height of 11.9m!
Specialist powered access equipment was used to be able to be able to gain access to the ceiling
